about

This song is based on an old Irish tune, and while this Deanta version has a very obvious catchy Celtic vibe, there is a message hidden in the song that is less obvious. Once I had learned the fiddle parts and was wondering about the origin, I read that unlike most traditional songs about the guy getting the girl, this was a song where the girl decidedly rejected the advances of a wealthy and powerful man-- and basically said, ‘I’m good without your money or you, thank you very much.’ And I thought --we can certainly use more songs like this in the world!
