The resurrection of the Messiah, Jesus, is a great cause for celebration for all peoples of all races and backgrounds and faiths. He is the first-born of the new creation and the one who offers all of us freedom from our captivity.

Sadly, people claiming to be followers of Jesus ascribing to white christian nationalism and other similar cults have turned this message of the gospel or "good news" into the exact opposite for too many around the world. And, songs claiming to be 'worship songs' have been sung by some in the service of domination, cruelty and empire.

As far as I can see, the gospel can only be read from the bottom, not from the top. God's preference for the poor, the hungry, the crushed, the downtrodden, the sick and the broken is all over the many books of what people refer to as the Bible. This message of hope is for all of us who are wiling to not live by "my will," but by " Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Therein lies true freedom.

We hope these versions of this song will find you in that spirit this Easter, and that they can be an encouragement to you.
