about

I’ve sung this song many times as a benediction-- literally a ‘good word’ to be encouragement and hope for people as they leave a gathering-- encouragement that there is an actual river of love and care, if we want to follow it, that leads us ‘back to our home.’ For me, that ‘home’ is the caring, healing relationship where we lovingly participate and partner with God and each other. And for me it hearkens to a hope of resurrected life together. I am so painfully aware of the brokenness in the world that defies logic or description. But this is not a song of ‘pie in the sky’ hope. The song pulls no punches about the difficulties of evil, war, hardship, broken relationships and death. But for me it is also an honest prayer of hope-- that the things that break us are not the only story-- that there is a redemptive story of healing and belonging going on at the same time. That story will have the final say over evil and death.
