When I started working on these songs, I wanted to try to write a song that spoke of the vulnerability, humility and humanity that we can all participate in together-- an effort to find common ground, and even love between us. Some days, the idea that ‘Our differences aren’t so great as they might first seem’ can seem very naive and ridiculous-- especially in the face of the fear, hatred, anger, tribalism, nationalism, racism, sexism and violence that permeates much of our current news. When I see how we have treated each other lately, and over the centuries, it can spark honest despair in me.
But, the songwriters here in this project and other artists, seekers, faithful remnant and 'journeyers' throughout history continue to tell and live stories of healing, hope and connection. I can see that, along with the many destructive things I am seeing. Yes, I see the difficulty, but I see the hope, too. These people I’ve mentioned help me see it, and help me want to give it a try.
I hope this song, along with the others on this record can be a part of a healing lineage-- where we put our defenses aside, where we find safe places to share our stories vulnerably, and where we hear each other and participate together in each other’s healing-- the healing that God is always working toward-- around us, and with our participation, through us.
I am painfully aware of the awesome freedom we have to hate and wound and destroy. But I also know from experience that we have the freedom to work for renewal, for healing, for love and for compassion-- and I hope to be a part of that work with you.

Music and Lyrics by Wade Baynham
Seeing You in Me
I see you in me
I see the things you fear; I’m afraid too
I see when you fall; I’ve fallen too
I see what you’re thinking; I feel crazy too
I see you in me
I see your hurts; I’m hurting too
I see your tears; I’m crying too
I see your smile; I’m smiling too
I see you’re growing; I’m growing too
I see you in me
I see you in me
Why’s it so hard to admit, we share so much-- have much in common
Our differences aren’t so great, as they might first seem
I see you in me
I see your shame; I’m ashamed too
I see your blame; I blame too
I see you feel trapped; I want to be free too
I see you’re human; I’m human too
Then I can’t see you; you’re hiding from me, I’m hiding from you
Come out, come out, it’s ok; it’ll be alright
Let’s do this together; take off the masks
We’ll lay our hearts bare; it’ll hurt for a while
It’ll sting and then... it will stop
I see you in me
I see your defenses; I’m defended too
I see you’re a skeptic; I’m skeptical too
I see that you’re trying; I’m trying too
I see that you’re stepping toward me; I’m stepping toward you
I see you in me
I see you in me
I see you
See you in me
