Don’t Talk (A Lament)

from Free by wade baynham

about

The previous president of the United States was reported by the Washington Post to have lied over 30,500 times during his time in office. Many of his followers amplified these lies ad-nauseum. It is very traumatic to be gaslit over and over. The sky is blue and the grass is green. I’m tired of hearing otherwise. This song is for the gaslighters.

lyrics

Don’t talk about freedom to me while you keep us all in jail
Don’t talk about liberty when you keep so many in slavery
Don’t talk about who’s essential as you risk their lives, not your own
Don’t talk about truth when your mouth is so full of lies
Don’t tell me nothing’s your fault and only others are to blame
Don’t tell me about our economy that you steal from the poor to give to the rich

Chorus: Your time will come one day
Your charade will all be through
You’ll rot in the dark mud
There’ll be nothing left of you

Don’t talk about family to me, as you cruelly incest your own
Don’t talk to me of opportunities while you’re crushing people’s dreams
Don’t talk of this great country as you support a cruel empire
Don’t talk about national defense when you only defend your own ass
Don’t talk about American history by touting slave-holder logic
Don’t talk about good people on both sides to justify white supremacy

Chorus: You know you’ll face the music one day
The song won’t be for you
You’ll meet the real leader of the band
The choir will sing you’re through

Don’t talk about God to me, when you stand for what He hates
Don’t talk about saving the people while you’re kneeling on our throats
Don’t talk about strength, when you are a bully and a coward
Don’t tell me who you admire, dictators and mobsters all
Don’t talk to me about democracy, when the only voice you count is your own
Don’t talk about law and order, while you incite the violence yourself

Chorus: You’ll play your last card one day
Your little game will all be done
You’ll have to face the judgment
There’ll be nowhere left to run (2x)
