Disease of Conceit

from Free by wade baynham

about

I don’t find that many people know this song. I have read that Bob Dylan did it in concert for a few years, but didn’t often perform it in the years since it’s release. It’s a tough song to sing, despite its simple, rootsy, musical beauty, because arrogance and conceit are hardly seen as deadly by most of our American culture. To many, these traits are national pastimes. I think it’s a critique that falls on deaf ears and denial too much of the time.

I have been around narcissists and egomaniacs plenty in my life; and I can personally attest to how deadly this disease can be-- for all of us.
