John Denver has provided the sing-along soundtrack to so many of our lives; this despite the continuous bashing he received from critics over the years. And much of his music seems to hope for a kind of peace and serenity he struggled to maintain in his own life. I can relate! This song has turned into a hope and prayer in my life, and the more I’ve heard and sung this simple song, the more grateful for it I’ve become. Simply ‘being,’ ‘like a fish in the water, like a bird in the air,’ seems so crazy and childlike, but the admonition to ‘live, live without care’ is a message I need in the deep places of my very being.
